The Giving Tree Book Reveiw

Updated: Dec 11, 2017

The Giving Tree by: Shel Silverstein

In 1988, The Giving Tree was banned in a few places such as Colorado. Apparently, it was banned for being sexist. In the plot line, there is a female tree that stays in one place and a boy comes and visits her. She cares for him, and when he needs something, she will use anything she has to give. The boy starts growing up, and over the years, he starts coming to the tree less. When he does come, it's because he always needs something. She gives it to him, though she doesn't ever get anything in return. By the end of the story, the tree has nothing left to give him, because she is a small stump in the ground. Many people through this was sexist because the man never gave her a thing while she gave him everything.
